How To Wing Foil: Getting Up On Foil

Different conditions for wing foiling require different techniques.  Wind chop and ocean swell can create unstable surfaces that make it difficult to get going on the wing foil.  You’ll probably develop your own style and techniques, but the steps below can get you started.

1.    Place the wing downwind and reach across your board.

2.    Grab a handle with your leading hand.

3.    Using your back arm for balance, bring your knees up onto the board.

4.    While crouching under the wing, grab the back handle.

5.    Bring your front foot up to the center of the board. Keep your back to the wind, your board perpendicular and your front hand up high.

6.    Rock up to your back foot.

7.    Adjust so you are slightly downwind.

8.    Pump the wing as needed. (pro tip: it’s easier to learn with more wind so it pulls you up)

9.    Rock back and apply pressure to your back foot.

10.    HAVE FUN!
